About Us
Why We Do It
Many animals in New York City do not have homes, making them more prone to contracting diseases and getting injured. Others are taken in by animal services, but end up being euthanized. It is our responsibility to help these animals get the medical attention they need and find them forever homes whenever possible since all animals deserve to be safe and loved.
Who We Are
NYC's Lucky Rescues is not a non-profit, but does not earn any money. All the money we fundraise goes to animal organizations in NYC.
The name "NYC's Lucky Rescues" was inspired by Lucky, a cat that our founder rescued, fostered, and helped get adopted when she was in elementary school. Lucky was a lucky rescue since he found a safe and loving forever home. Our goal at NYC's Lucky Rescues is to make every rescue a lucky rescue like Lucky by working tirelessly to support and fundraise for animal organizations based in NYC. Our Founder
NYC's Lucky Rescues was founded in 2022 by Lena Darby, a current high school student who lives in Manhattan. Lena has been passionate about helping animals her whole life and may become a veterinarian in the future. In the past, she volunteered for The Artemis Project, a rescue organization for cats in Manhattan. Many of the photos seen in this website were taken by Lena and her mother while volunteering at Artemis. She volunteered for Best Friends Animal Society during the summer of 2022 at their animal sanctuary in Utah. She also attended a summer program for animal lovers and aspiring veterinarians. Additionally, she is currently interning at an animal hospital.
